The FIGC’s commissioner Roberto Fabbricini confirms talks with Carlo Ancelotti but “no-one is in pole”.
It was revealed this morning that the former Milan Coach had met with the Federation to discuss the Italy CT role, but it appears talks are not as advanced as suggested.
“Today in the newspapers a lot of space has been given to a meeting which I won’t say was incidental,” Fabbricini said on Radio Crc.

“Today in the newspapers a lot of space has been given to a meeting which I won’t say was incidental,” Fabbricini said on Radio Crc.
“Ancelotti has a fairly serious family problem though, and that’s why he was in Rome. [Sub-commissioner Alessandro] Costacurta, having a strong friendship with Ancelotti, met him and I also took part in that meeting.
“We talked about a future scenario though, and we still have a Coach [Luigi Di Biagio] under contract. The Azzurri bench still has a special appeal and we’re happy about that.
“I don’t think a Coach can a priori rule out a prestigious job like leading Italy, then of course there are other factors which affect the decision – the desire to work every day for example.
“That said, the Azzurri bench is always an objective for any Coach.
“No-one is in pole, we want to respect the date of May 20 because the national team will play on May 28, but we can’t fix a ranking for the bench.
“We want someone with a great desire to work for Italian football and for the Italian national team, and the new CT will certainly be someone of great prestige.”
