FIFA are “analysing” Juan Camilo Zuniga’s challenge on Neymar, which fractured the Brazilian’s vertebra.
The Colombian full-back went in with his knee on Neymar’s back during the 2-1 quarter-final last night, ruling him out of the World Cup.
“The disciplinary committee is analysing the matter. The spirit of fair play is very important and we want to avoid difficult things on the field of play,” confirmed FIFA head of media Delia Fischer.
The Brazilian Federation has called for video evidence to be used to punish Zuniga and Ronaldo agrees.
“The challenge was a very violent one – I believe there was an intention by the Colombian player to cause some harm,” said the former Inter striker.
“I don’t think it was normal football play, I don’t know whether he had planned this beforehand but I do believe it was very aggressive, very violent.”
Zuniga has received racist abuse and death threats from Neymar supporters on social media.
