Ficcadenti silent on Cagliari future

Massimo Ficcadenti has warned Cagliari they need “another three if not four or five points” to be safe, but won’t think beyond tomorrow’s game with Chievo.

Massimo Ficcadenti has warned Cagliari they need “another three if not four or five points” to be safe, but won’t think beyond tomorrow’s game with Chievo.

The Sardinians are on 41 points, which usually would be enough to consider themselves safe from the threat of relegation, but this season the bar has been raised.

“We need another three if not four or five points to be relaxed. In the last few weeks we have played before the others, so the only way to be absolutely calm is to win,” he said in his press conference.

“Safety depends only on us and, as I have underlined many times, we are able to earn it with our performances on the field. I never doubted the team’s efforts despite the second half at Parma, which was so bad it couldn’t be real.

“But be wary that we hadn’t become disastrous then and we are not phenomenons now. We are simply Cagliari and believe me that is saying something.”

Ficcadenti took over from Roberto Donadoni in mid-August and was sacked to make way for Davide Ballardini before being recalled. Does he know whether he’ll stay in Sardinia next season?

“As far as I am concerned, the future is tomorrow’s game with Chievo, then Genoa, Juventus and Fiorentina.

“One thing I can say is that I want to thank the Rossoblu fans for all they have done for us in every situation, regardless of the problems and logistical difficulties,” he added.

Cagliari are playing their last home games of the season in Trieste due to a dispute with the local council over restructuring the Stadio Sant’Elia.

“What unites the club, staff, team and fans is the good of Cagliari.”
