Feyenoord to put up protections for Lazio bench

Tensions are high ahead of Lazio’s Champions League clash with Feyenoord and the Dutch side will reportedly put up a net to protect the Biancocelesti bench at De Kuip.

The two teams faced off in the Europa League group stage last season and tensions flared in the Netherlands when smoke bombs delayed the kick-off. During the match, various objects were thrown onto the pitch, aimed at the Lazio bench.

Coach Maurizio Sarri made a unique complaint after the full-time whistle, telling the media that “it was raining bags of p*ss from the stands”. He later claimed that he’s “never known worse fans than those of Feyenoord”, statements that likely haven’t been forgotten by sections of the club’s fanbase.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport via TMW, Feyenoord are looking to dampen the tensions and avoid further trouble, so will put up a net in De Kuip protecting the Lazio bench from thrown objects.

Dutch football has been increasingly plagued by fan violence and hooliganism in recent years, pushing authorities to start exploring long-term solutions.
