Ex-Inter stars explain how Nerazzurri can beat Juventus in key Serie A game

Julio Cesar, Roberto Boninsegna, Luigi Di Biagio and Giuseppe Bergomi, four ex-Inter stars, explain how Simone Inzaghi’s men can beat Juventus in a key Serie A fixture on Sunday.

Inter visit Juventus in a key Serie A game this coming Sunday.

Although it is still early in the season, the Nerazzurri are enjoying a two-point lead over the Bianconeri, so they could go five points clear of their harsh rivals with a victory in Turin.

Inter have the best attack in the league with 29 goals scored in 12 games and the less-beaten defence with just six goals conceded, one fewer than Juventus.

They can also rely on Serie A’s Capocannoniere Lautaro Martinez, scorer of 12 goals so far this season.

However, Inzaghi will be forced to do without the injured Alessandro Bastoni and Benjamin Pavard, plus former Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado who has been out of action since September.

Juventus have seven players currently out of action, plus the suspended Paul Pogba and Nicolò Fagioli, but Massimiliano Allegri hopes to recover some players in time for Sunday’s meeting.

La Gazzetta dello Sport asked four ex-Inter stars how the Nerazzurri can beat Juventus.

JULIO CESAR – “Yann Sommer is proving to be a reliable keeper, but I don’t like comparisons [to André Onana]. On the other hand, Juventus have Szczesny another goalkeeper with great experience. I like Lautaro, a great striker and a leader. I hope he will score and I think Inter will win.”

BONINSEGNA – “Thuram and Lautaro are perfectly in sync and they can make the difference against Juventus. Inter would give a strong signal with a victory. Inzaghi’s team is not perfect. I feel they miss a classic playmaker even if Calhanoglu is doing well in that position. They are still the best team in Serie A.”

DI BIAGIO – “It’s a game between the best defences but I think Juventus will try to win. What Inter did in the Champions League last season has increased their confidence and it’s been an added value. Inzaghi has an exceptional midfield where even Frattesi is struggling for regular playing time. I believe he could be Inter’s added value against Juventus. He can play in any role, even striker or winger if needed. Inter players are improving in every position. If I had to name one [decisive] player I’d say Dimarco, I’ve known him for a long time.”

BERGOMI – “Inter must pay attention to set pieces. I think Juventus have more physicality so Inter must pay attention to this aspect. At the same time, Inter can hurt Juventus from the left flank with Dimarco and Mkhitaryan. Of course, the Lautaro-Thuram link-up is Inter’s real strength. The same is true of Dumfries’ physicality and cross-field passes. I see Inter dictate the game, but the team with less haste will win.”
