Former Inter and Netherlands winger Andy van der Meyde has confessed that he ‘thought about suicide’ during his playing career.
Van der Meyde made 54 appearances for Inter between 2003 and 2005, as well as helping Netherlands reach the Euro 2004 semi-finals.
However, his career spiralled out of control after he left the Nerazzurri for Everton, playing just 24 times in four seasons as he became addicted to alcohol, drugs and gambling.

“I earned €45,000 a week and drove a big Ferrari, but I couldn’t go anywhere,” the 38-year-old told Voetbal Inside.
“When I played in England, during a difficult time in my career, I also thought about suicide.
My family and mother prevented me from doing it.”
