Malta will have a new coach in charge when they face Italy in the EURO 2024 qualifiers in March, as former Chievo and Torino player Michele Marcolini replaces Devis Mangia.
The Azzurri are in qualifying Group C for the 2024 European Championship along with Malta, England, Ukraine and North Macedonia.
Mangia was forced to resign amid a scandal and investigation into alleged inappropriate behaviour with players, something he always denied.
Like the former Palermo coach, the new Malta tactician is also Italian, specifically Michele Marcolini.
The 47-year-old spent most of his management career in the lower leagues, including Avellino, Chievo, Novara and most recently Albinoleffe.
As a player, Marcolini represented Torino, Bari, Sora, Vicenza, Atalanta, Chievo, Padova and Lumezzane before his retirement in 2013.
Malta will host England on March 16 2023, then visit North Macedonia on March 23 and welcome Italy on March 26.
The return fixture in Italy will be on October 14 2023.
