EURO 2020 | Belgium or Italy to play Spain in the semi-finals

Spain beat Switzerland after penalties and are through to the semi-finals of EURO 2020 and will face either Italy or Belgium in the next round.

Luis Enrique’s men needed penalties to overcome the Swiss, who had already sent France out of the competition in the same way in the last 16.

Spain struggled to break down Switzerland, even after assist man Remo Freuler was sent off in the second half of the match.

Jordi Alba had given Spain the lead in St. Petersburg, before Xherdan Shaqiri equalised, but none of the teams managed to decide the game before 120 minutes had gone.

Spain won 3-1 on penalties, after Sergio Busquets and Rodri missed their penalties. Mikel Oyarzabal scored the winning spot kick after Fabian Schar, Manuel Akanji and Ruben Vargas missed for Switzerland.

Belgium face Italy at the Allianz Arena in Munich tonight, and the winner between the two European giants will face Spain in the battle for place in the Final of the European Championship this summer.
