Eriksen set to make Brentford debut after eight month absence

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen will return to action today, making his debut for Brentford this afternoon as they host Newcastle.

The 30-year-old Danish midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland last summer, but luckily recovered from the incident after vital on-pitch medical care. Due to the fact that an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) was fitted, he was no longer allowed to play for Inter, as Serie A regulations are extremely cautious regarding heart issues.

Eriksen signed for Brentford on a free transfer last month and he’s been returning to match fitness in training over the last few weeks, excited to get back on the pitch once again. Coach Thomas Frank confirmed to the press that the former Tottenham man would be receiving his debut in this afternoon’s game.

The Dane is contracted to Brentford until the end of the season but it’s likely that they’d extend his deal should things go well over the next few months.
