Eriksen ‘proud’ of Denmark teammates

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Christian Eriksen sent a Whatsapp message to his Denmark teammates after their win against the Czech Republic: ‘I am proud of you.’

Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in Denmark’s opening UEFA Euro 2020 clash against Finland due to a cardiac arrest.

He was given urgent CPR on the pitch and stabilised to the hospital, where he had a heart-starter device implanted.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 29-year-old sent a Whatsapp message to his teammates after their 2-1 win over the Czech Republic yesterday.

Eriksen wrote: ‘I am proud of you’ as his teammates celebrated gaining access to the semis where they will face England.

“It’s magical. The first thing I showed the boys when we met was a picture of Wembley, when we were there in the autumn,” Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand told UEFA.com.

“I said that we were going to come back. It was like we were playing in a Danish stadium because our dedicated fans came to support us in Baku. We’re deeply thankful.”

“We had a goal before heading into this tournament, and that was to go back to Wembley,” added Milan defender and Denmark captain Simon Kjaer.

“I’d be lying if I said that we’re OK with reaching the semis. We need to recover and then we have another match in four days.”
