‘Empoli always difficult’

Inter Coach Roberto Mancini warns that a trip to Empoli is always difficult as he takes his side to Tuscany tomorrow.

The Nerazzurri travel to face Maurizio Sarri’s men knowing that a win would take them within three points of Lazio in third place, albeit having played one game more.

“They [Empoli] are a great team,” Mancini told journalists in his pre-match Press conference.

“They have a very good Coach, and also many good youngsters. It’s always difficult to win at Empoli, Inter will have to be careful, in fact we’ll have to be almost perfect.

“We have to do things right on the pitch. We’re thinking one game at a time, preparing games well.

“We have to only think seriously about Empoli. After that we can think about the Coppa Italia and Torino.

“I can see that we’re always getting better, the team has belief, and this gives me hope. Nobody is giving less than they could, and that’s positive.

“It may be that we don’t succeed, but it’s down to us.”

Mancio also took the time to demand more from Mateo Kovacic, with the Croatian international having signed a contract extension last week.

“He hasn’t given enough for the quality he has so far, but he’s growing and giving more.

“He can be decisive in every game, but he needs to improve in certain areas and positions. You have to talk to reach an understanding, he’s improved every day.”
