Torino’s Europa League play-off first leg with Croatian outfit RNK Split this evening ended goalless.

It was a match in which the Serie A side dominated and had the better chances, only to be repeatedly denied by home goalkeeper Andrija Vukovic.

Nevertheless, Giampiero Ventura will be relatively happy with his side’s result and they will now begin next week’s return leg at Stadio Olimpico as favourites to progress to the Group Stage.

The Granata began the brighter and could have been ahead in the opening 20 minutes, but neither Antonio Nocerino nor Marcelo Larrondo could convert decent openings.

At the other end, Granata keeper Daniele Padelli made an excellent stop to deny Mate Bilic from a free-kick as the hosts came back into the contest.

Paulo Barreto missed another good opportunity for Toro on the stroke of half time and it remained goalless at the break.

Further second half chances came and went for Larrondo, Barreto and substitute Fabio Quagliarella came and went but all in all it was a satisfactory night’s work for Ventura’s team.
