Sampdoria midfielder Albin Ekdal has spent a month in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus and the Sweden international admitted ‘it was very hard’.
The Blucerchiati were one of the teams hardest-hit by the pandemic last month and the 30-year-old was among the first batch of players to test positive for the virus in Serie A.
“I was quarantined for a month alone and it was very hard,” Ekdal said on Twitter. “I read a few books, watch TV series and films, I play the PlayStation and I get some sun, but above all, I’m sleeping a lot more. That’s the only positive thing.”
The Genoa resident spoke about becoming a father and life in Genoa and recalled his best memories in the Sampdoria shirt.
“I have become less selfish. The life that matters the most is that of my daughter and no longer mine. I want her to be well and my girlfriend helps me a lot.
“My family are doing very well here in Genoa. We have the sea right in front of our house and it’s fantastic for Swedish people like us. In Sweden we don't have the same beautiful sea and we are very happy about this.
“I will never forget winning the derby against Genoa, its very important for the fans and having been able to give them this joy was fantastic.”
Ekdal also spoke about the best players he has played against during his career, highlighting the current Fiorentina star Franck Ribery and Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic among a host of stars.
“Bayern Munich and Spain were my worst opponents. [Robert] Lewandowski, [Franck] Ribery, [Arjen] Robben and Thomas Müller are fantastic,” he said. “The Spanish national side, however, never let you touch the ball.
“As individual players, I would say [Eden] Hazard, [Cristiano] Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic and Robben again.2
