After a month and a half out, the Argentine could finally return for a few minutes, as Juventus host Crotone on Monday.
Coach Andrea Pirlo told Sky Sport Italia that Dybala ‘didn’t even have five minutes in his legs’ after the 2-1 defeat to the Portuguese giants.
But it’s expected that Dybala will increase the intensity in training and give Pirlo another option in attack.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been a mainstay up front, with Dejan Kulusevski and Alvaro Morata rotating for the position next to the talisman.
Dybala has to turn around his worst season since joining Juventus, with only 859 minutes on the pitch so far, contributing three goals and two assists.
The injury against Sassuolo in January was a more serious setback than first expected but the 27-year-old, who has received ‘good luck’ messages from Tom Brady and James Harden, seems set to contribute.
The wait is over and Juventus could need his creatitivity, as they are waiting for Juan Cuadrado too.
The hope of having Dybala supporting and triggering Ronaldo, who has not scored for three games.
“We miss Dybala’s goals,” Pirlo admitted to Sky Sport Italia. “He can give us a boost in quality. We hope he will soon become like a new signing.”
Juventus didn’t bring in any additions in January, even if Pirlo requested a new striker.
“Paulo has had a truly unlucky year,” sporting director Fabio Paratici told the broadcaster. “He is a very important player that we look forward to having back.”
Dybala’s contract with Juventus expires in June 2022 and the negotiations for a new deal will have to wait until he has recovered fully and starts contributing again.
The Argentine will gradually return to the line-up and should be given some minutes on Monday, as he seeks a chance to rescue his worst season yet with the Bianconeri.
