Dumfries: ‘Inter want me to attack’

Denzel Dumfries confirms Simone Inzaghi told him to ‘attack and make the field as wide as possible’ after a great performance in Inter’s 6-1 win over Bologna.

They certainly put the disappointment of a 2-2 draw with Sampdoria and 1-0 home defeat to Real Madrid behind them, thrashing the Rossoblu 6-1 at San Siro.

It was their 18th consecutive Serie A home victory, something only four clubs have previously achieved.

The Man of the Match was undoubtedly Dumfries, who in his first start provided two assists and was a constant thorn down the right side.

“I’m very happy, it was a good game after the defeat to Real Madrid we needed to bounce back. We did a really good job as a team, it was a good game,” the Dutchman told DAZN.

“I need to go and attack, to make the field as wide as possible. It’s my first start, but I feel good with my teammates, they give me a warm welcome, help me a lot and I am happy to be here.”

Dumfries was brought in to replace Achraf Hakimi and quite a few Inter fans will feel reassured after tonight’s performance that the shoes have been filled.

“He did a very good job last year! I am very proud to be here, it’s a wonderful club, beautiful fans and I’m so happy.”

In his first post-match interview, Dumfries was asked if he could speak any Italian yet and went viral when he replied ‘Un poquito,’ which is Spanish.

“I learned a lot of Italian words now, it’s getting better. That is a mistake I don’t make anymore!”
