Disappointed Buffon will stay

Gianluigi Buffon insists he will remain at Juventus despite the disappointments of the present campaign.

The Old Lady failed to make a serious Scudetto bid and will probably end the season without qualifying for the Champions League.

"Unfortunately this term has almost been as unsatisfying as the last one, due to the points we've lost on our way and to the chances we missed," he stated.

"We still hope to reach the Europa League though, but we must primarily play for our self-respect. Shipping the oars now would be nonsensical."

Juve's difficulties have only increased the speculation that Buffon could be sacrificed in the summer, with Chelsea and Arsenal now being paired with him.

"My intent, as well as that of the club, is to continue being together," continued the Italian international.

"Are [Chelsea boss Carlo] Ancelotti and Arsenal looking for me? Ancelotti launched my career and I'm grateful to him. We've a good relationship, but due to reasons not related to football.

"Arsenal, instead, is a good subject for you journalists, but this doesn't cause me a problem."

Buffon was, perhaps inevitably, asked for his thoughts on the meeting between Juventus and Real Madrid yesterday.

"Perhaps they went there to sign Cristiano Ronaldo," he smiled. "Joking aside, whoever will arrive will be welcomed by the whole team.

"The club have a clear head concerning the steps to take in order to build a great team."
