Sacked Fiorentina boss Delio Rossi says he thinks he has the qualities and skills to take charge of a national side.
“I believe that I have the experience necessary to think about a future with a nation,” he told Sky Sport Italia.
“Could I succeed Cesare Prandelli with Italy? Never say never, but I want to make it clear that I haven’t put myself forward for that.”
Rossi is currently out of work after he was dismissed in May following a touchline brawl with Viola midfielder Adem Ljajic.
“A lot of people judged me for that without knowing what happened,” he added. “I said sorry to everyone, including the boy. I’m now ready to start again.
“There are some situations open for me in Italy and abroad, but I haven’t decided anything yet,” he continued.
“I think I’ve done a good job at every club I have been with, even Fiorentina when you consider the difficult situation there.
“I’d prefer to stay in Italy, but an experience in a foreign country can help you to grow under certain aspects.”
The former Lazio tactician was also asked for his opinion on Sunday’s Italy-England Euro 2012 quarter-final.
“We are a strong team and we can make a tactical impact against England,” he explained. “England are a pragmatic side, solid, and they have two or three prominent individual players.
“If we go into the game in good physical shape then we can do it because we have more fantasy.”
Rossi added that Spain and Germany remain his favourites for Euro 2012 glory.
