Alessandro Del Piero visited former teammate Antonio Conte at the Tottenham Hotspur training ground today and was mobbed for selfies by the Spurs stars. ‘Conte was relatively relaxed.’
Conte took over from sacked Nuno Espirito Santo earlier this month and is now settling back in London after his previous experience at Chelsea.
Del Piero is also in London this evening for his work as a Sky Sport Italia pundit covering the game between Chelsea and Juventus at Stamford Bridge.
So he took the opportunity to swing by and see Conte in his new habitat.
“I was really impressed by the whole Spurs organisation, what they have built and are continuing to build,” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia.
“It was also lovely to see Antonio. He was smiling and relatively relaxed, so perhaps the most recent victory over Leeds United allowed him to ease off a little.
“Everyone was working really hard around him on the training ground and he loves that.”
The Sky Sport Italia grew confirmed Del Piero was asked for selfies by everyone from Harry Kane to Son Heung-Min and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
“These are lads with some very special wages, but they are still lads and like me grew up watching their idols, the players they wanted to learn from and that goes back to the pure things about this sport, admiring someone who marked your career when you were young.”
When Del Piero arrived at Stamford Bridge this evening, he was then mobbed by the visiting Juventus supporters who were waiting outside for the game.
“They showed great warmth towards me and I love to feel that.”
