According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roberto De Zerbi and Enzo Maresca are among the candidates to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
Two Italian coaches, De Zerbi and Maresca, are among the candidates Chelsea are considering to replace Pochettino, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Blues confirmed the Argentinean’s departure with an official statement on Tuesday and according to the pink paper, they’ll change strategy this summer, picking a coach who can develop young players and carry forward a long-term project rather than an established tactician, like their former bosses José Mourinho, Antonio Conte or Thomas Tuchel.
Gazzetta: De Zerbi and Maresca among candidates for Chelsea job
Gazzetta claims that De Zerbi and Maresca are among the candidates for the role. Thiago Motta had previously been linked with the job at Stamford Bridge, but the ex-Italian midfielder is expected to sign a two-year deal with Juventus.
There are obviously other options for the Blues, including Rúben Amorim (Sporting CP), Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart), Michel (Girona) and Kieeran McKenna (Ipswich).
Maresca is a former assistant coach of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and has secured promotion to the Premier League with Leicester City this season. His contract with the Foxes runs out in June 2026.
On the other hand, De Zerbi has left Brighton by mutual agreement so he’s free to sign with any other club.
