The Ivorian joined Hebei China Fortune in the January transfer window, claiming it would’ve been a betrayal to continue at the club under Luciano Spalletti after his mentor Rudi Garcia was sacked.
“What Gervinho said was fully in line what his career path, so I am not surprised,” De Sanctis told romanews.eu.
“I was surprised, including during the Garcia era, by his lack of respect towards what was considered team matters, which included Garcia and all of us.
“What he says now is absolutely true, Garcia probably did give him everything he had in sport. If I were him, I’d ask myself some questions about his behaviour during Garcia’s time at Roma and some incidents in which he could’ve acted better.”
Spalletti caused controversy and earned praise too for dropping Francesco Totti after an unauthorised interview criticising the Coach.
“A Coach has to guarantee a series of behaviours despite the fact not all players are the same,” added De Sanctis.
“Some players are more talented than others, but in terms of behaviour and being part of a team, they all have to behave the same way.
“A Coach and club together have to guarantee that type of consistency.”
