“Dear Napoli fans, dear Neapolitans and football fans. The greetings I’m going to send you are different from the usual ones,” tweeted the President.

The Serie A campaign remains in a state of flux as Italy continues to fight off coronavirus, but De Laurentiis claims the majority of football fans want 2019-20 to be fulfilled.

“Dear Napoli fans, dear Neapolitans and football fans. The greetings I’m going to send you are different from the usual ones,” tweeted the President.

“We’re experiencing a strange Easter. We’re all locked up in our homes to fight a terrible and devious enemy.

“Almost all activities have been suspended. Football has been stopped for a month and a half and we don’t know when it will be able to resume.

“Many people have left us and did so without being able to embrace their loved ones for the last time.

“And many more are still in difficulty. I think of those who are in intensive care, I think of the medical staff who are fighting a very difficult battle.

“I think of all those who have been affected economically by this pandemic. But I also think that we’ll be able to get out of it. Not without difficulty, but we’ll succeed.

“I won’t say everything will go back to the way it was because many things, many of our attitudes, weren’t good before, but I’m sure that our lives will one day be even better.

“I know you miss football, but it’ll be back soon. I’m working on a resumption that is quick and safe for everyone.

“From the bottom of my heart, I wish you all a Happy Easter. We’ll pull through.”
