De Canio rues Udinese chance

Udinese Coach Gigi De Canio was “satisfied with the performance, not the result, but we had a late chance” against Inter.

The Friulani had taken an early lead at San Siro through Cyril Thereau’s sensational volley, but Stevan Jovetic bagged a brace to turn it around.

Deep into stoppages Samir Handanovic performed a decisive save on Duvan Zapata and Eder sealed the 3-1 result on the counter.

“It is a really big chance to grab a point after playing really well here,” De Canio told Mediaset Premium.

“It was a tactically smart, entertaining and fascinating encounter. When we pushed hard, we created a lot of clear-cut scoring opportunities.

“Of course we didn’t expect to come here and annul Inter completely or even dominated them on their own turf. I am satisfied with the performance, but obviously not the result.”

He was asked if Udinese stars Silvan Widmer and Bruno Fernandes are ready for a move to the likes of Inter.

“I think so, especially as they are lads with good technical quality as well as character. They are ambitious and eager to improve.

“They have what it takes to stay in a squad like Inter.”
