The last few days have been dominated by the controversy over Gervinho, whose move to Al-Sadd was worked out in the final seconds of the transfer window, only to fail because paperwork wasn’t registered in time by the Qatari club.
“I’ve already said my part on Gervinho, the club has decided to evaluate the situation, time will take us to a decision,” said the coach in his press conference.
“He has made a step towards us, but he is not in the squad for this game. Matteo Scozzarella is also out, as he is injured. The good news is that Andreas Cornelius, Yann Karamoh and Dejan Kulusevski are available, although of course they need to be evaluated carefully.
“Andreas is our only remaining centre-forward, with Roberto Inglese out for the season, he picked up a knock against Cagliari and we have to be careful.
“I called up Karamoh so he can just get back into the matchday atmosphere. Kulusevski risks a relapse the more minutes I give him on the pitch, so we have to take all that into account.
“Gianluca Caprari can play as a centre-forward, albeit with very different qualities, while there’s also Juraj Kucka. We do have a few doubts for tomorrow.”
Lazio are unbeaten in 17 Serie A games, but this weekend are without Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Stefan Radu, Senad Lulic and Danilo Cataldi.
“This is a team who with their first choice XI can compete for the very top, they are physical, organised, have quality and various options in attack. They were unlucky only to draw with Verona midweek, hitting the woodwork twice.
“Given space to run in, Lazio can score three goals past anyone, so we must keep the game balanced and maintain intensity throughout.”
