The Ducali were beaten 3-0 in Bergamo with all three goals in the second half, but the deadlock was only broken by an unfortunate ricochet off Riccardo Gagliolo.

“We held out for an hour against a very strong side, but didn’t make the most of our opportunities to score and then conceded an avoidable goal,” D’Aversa told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are once again forced to discuss a game where we gifted situations to the opposition and conceded during our best period of the match.

“It’s important not to keep making these mistakes, because it’s not easy to recover against a side like Atalanta.”

Gervinho was back in the starting XI, but looked out of shape and barely made any impact.

“When he is feeling good, I always try to keep him on the pitch, as he can score a goal at any moment and keeps the opposition defence on their toes.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to rely on the full squad since the start of the season. Now we’ve got to focus on Frosinone, as it’s a head-to-head in order to avoid relegation.”
