D’Aversa: Darmian, Gagliolo, Gervinho…

Parma boss Roberto D’Aversa confirms Matteo Darmian will miss SPAL, feels ‘honoured’ by Riccardo Gagliolo’s Sweden call and tips Gervinho to bounce back.

Darmian was absent for Parma’s 3-2 win against Torino on Monday with a thigh injury, and the former Manchester United man will remain so tomorrow.

“Laurini and Darmian will not take part in the pitch, Matteo hasn’t recovered and he’ll be back after the international break,” D’Aversa said at a Press conference.

“Everyone else is in the squad. In that part of the pitch, I have five players and I’ll make evaluations.

“Iacoponi has already played at right-back so I’m calm about that. I don’t think we have a number five to play with a back three but regardless of the system, it’s important to play with the right attitude.

“We’ve changed different aspects of our tactics in different games and what matters is getting positive results.

“In sporting terms, it will be a battle and we need to be ready for 95 minutes of ‘war’ and the result is as important for us as it is for them.”

Gagliolo earned a place in the Sweden squad for the upcoming international break, at the age of 29 and with just three seasons of Serie A football under his belt.

“We’re all happy for Gagliolo, it’s a great honour,” added the Coach.

“Everyone who starts at a young age dreams of making it and playing international football. Through determination and hard work, anything can happen.

“Cornelius is an important player, it’s always nice to have selection headaches up front because you can start in different ways and make changes during games.

“In defence we don’t have this issue so much but I’d prefer to have it as it also improves the quality in training. While he’s played less, Andreas has always given 100%.”

Gervinho missed a penalty against Toro, so will D’Aversa change his default taker?

“We’ll decide tomorrow, great players also make mistakes. It doesn’t determine everything about a player or their performance.

“We’ll make evaluations until the very end, Kucka could start as he’s fit enough. Inglese had some issues before the Torino game, we’ll look at him.

“He’s come back but not got fully over it but he’s never stopped showing great attachment to this shirt.”
