Coronavirus: New cases plummet

There is some good news, as only 177 new positive cases were found, of which 84 were in the epicentre of Lombardy.

That means with 49,953 swabs taken, the positive rate is 0.35 per cent, the lowest since the pandemic began, and considerably lower than yesterday's 321.

However, just in Lombardy, that figure is 2.5 per cent, with 84 out of a total 3,410 swabs coming up positive.

Another 957 people were given the all-clear, so the total currently active cases in the country fell by 868 to 38,429.

There are now 338 patients in intensive care (-15), 5,503 in hospital with symptoms (-239) and 32,588 self-isolating at home (-614).
