Coronavirus localised in Lombardy

There were 49 deaths related to COVID-19 in Italy over the last 24 hours and 264 new positive cases, but again half of them were localised in Lombardy.

The pandemic continues to ease in Italy, with the situation largely isolated in the Lombardy region.

Of the 49 deaths over the last 24 hours, 23 were in Lombardy, taking the country’s total death toll to 34,610.

Out of 264 new positive cases in the country, well over half – 165 – were in the Lombardy region.

The total number of current active cases fell by 331, because another 546 people were given the all-clear, leaving just 182,453 with the virus.

Another nine left intensive care, so there are 152 remaining, while 2,474 are in hospital (-158) and 18,586 self-isolating at home with minor symptoms (-546).

Out of 54,772 tests, there were 264 new positive results, an average of 0.47 per cent.

Just in Lombardy, there were 165 positive tests from 9,314 swabs, averaging 1.77 per cent.

Only three regions have 15 or more new positive cases: Lombardy 165, Emilia-Romagna 28 and Piedmont 27, while eight regions are on zero.
