Juventus boss Antonio Conte insists that winning trophies is not enough to guarantee future success. “An example is Inter.”
The Old Lady have just won their second consecutive Scudetto, but he’s warned that the squad and team still needs to improve.
“We have to add another building block,” he told the Corriere dello Sport. “We need to grow, but you don’t have to win to grow because you can win and not build anything.
“An example is the Inter side which won the treble. That season they won everything, that was the peak but they built nothing.
“They’ve not won since and they’ve done badly this season – just three years after that treble success.”
Jose Mourinho’s Inter lifted the Scudetto, the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in 2010. Andrea Stramaccioni’s side have just ended the campaign in ninth.
“Last season we won the League by being unbeaten, this term we did it by collecting more points and being crowned champions with three games to go,” Conte continued.
“We have gone through some very bad times and the successes of today would have seemed unthinkable a few years ago.
“You have to look to the past to appreciate the present and improve in the future. We must always be hungry and not take anything for granted – that takes passion and patience.”
