Antonio Conte felt Italy “did more than enough to win” their 2-2 friendly draw with Romania. “There was intensity and tempo.”

The Azzurri fought back from an early goal to lead 2-1, but were pegged back in the final minutes of this final friendly of 2015.

“We have to start avoiding these incidents. Tonight Romania had two shots on goal and scored twice. It’s a shame, as we fully deserved to win this game in every way,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“It remains a good performance, we are disappointed that we didn’t win because of a goal conceded two minutes from time.

“I try to do my work, you be the judge,” he told the reporter.

“Italy were tense at the start because we conceded so early and then as time wore on shook it off. I am convinced the lads gave their all, played with intensity, tempo and everything needed to win.

“It’s a shame, as when you play like this with this intensity and creating so many chances, you have to win. I was already angry with the result in Belgium, so once again we failed to get the result we deserved. Hopefully it can be a learning experience.

“We’ll see, there are four months to go. We hope there won’t be any major injuries. There’s a group of lads who deserve to be here, we have these two important friendlies against Spain and Germany, so we’ll see.

“This squad brings emotions to the fans and those watching at home.”
