President Commisso spoke to Tuttomercatoweb about the Fiorentina winger, who has, according to reports, rejected the Viola’s attempt to renew his contract.
“Federico knows how important he is to Fiorentina. He knows that on our part, especially on mine, that there’s been no criticism of him. But we are a team and the team must play together. I haven't talked to him yet, but I will soon."
Coach Vincenzo Montella’s position has been under scrutiny recently, with the team not winning in the league since late October, but Commisso defended him.
“I was looking at our average league points at this stage of the season for the last 10 years, and we are only three points off of 19, which would be our best position in that time.
“We are well clear of the relegation zone. I didn’t promise Champions League football, I only promised that this season wouldn’t be a failure like last season.
"Having said that, I didn’t like our performance against Cagliari (where they lost 5-2).”
Fiorentina play Lecce at home on Saturday.
