There are surprising reports in Italy that Dani Alves offered himself to Serie A minnows Spezia after his Barcelona contract ran down, but they were not interested.
The remarkable story emerged in the Secolo XIX newspaper, which covers the Liguria region.
It is claimed that Dani Alves sent an email to Spezia directors proposing himself to them as a great summer signing.
He is a free agent, as his contract expires on June 30 and his contract with the Blaugrana has not been renewed.
However, the same source also maintains Spezia said no to the idea of signing Dani Alves, because he is already 39 years of age and the cost of the operation would also be excessive for the Serie A club.
Spezia managed to secure their Serie A safety for the third year in a row, but coach Thiago Motta has left by mutual consent and will be replaced by former Udinese boss Luca Gotti.
