Giorgio Chiellini admits Juventus “got the initial approach wrong” against Monaco and the second leg will be “tough.”
An Arturo Vidal penalty secured the 1-0 first leg victory in the Champions League quarter-final this evening.
“We knew it would be difficult, but we stayed sharp,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.
“Our initial approach was wrong, leaving too many spaces to their strikers who can be devastating on the counter, but then we adjusted and controlled the game.
“We expected it to be tough, as compared to Borussia Dortmund they don’t let you play and then go on the rapid counter-attack. We were tense in the opening 20 minutes, but then relaxed and I think the result is deserved.
“It’s the same situation we had with Dortmund, so 1-0 and 2-1 makes little difference. We know that it’s going to be even tougher in the second leg.”
Vidal converted the spot-kick and put in a strong overall performance. Is he finally back?
“He’s been in good shape for a while. We’re happy that he scored and hope he can continue like this.”
