Chelsea to fine Lukaku following controversial interview

Chelsea could reportedly fine their striker Romelu Lukaku following the interview he released last week, where he admitted that he wants to return to Inter in the future.

The Belgian striker’s interview with Sky Sport Italia caused a storm at Stamford Bridge. The Blues boss Thomas Tuchel left the 28-year-old out of Sunday’s key Premier League clash against Liverpool and discussed the striker’s future at the club during a meeting on Monday.

The former Manchester United striker did also change his Facebook bio describing himself as an Inter player and has deactivated his Twitter account.

Lukaku had joined the Blues for €115m in the summer and during the interview, he apologised to Inter fans for the way he left, adding that he hopes to return to the club before the end of his career.

Lukaku met Tuchel and Chelsea directors yesterday and the Premier League giants are expected to release an official statement today.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku apologised, but Chelsea could still fine him up to €600,000.

Conte: ‘It’s disrespectful to speak about Lukaku and Chelsea’

However, they have informed their striker that he won’t leave in January or at the end of the season, but growing reports link Lukaku with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham in June.

The Italian tactician refused to comment on Lukaku’s situation during a press conference on Monday. “It would disrespectful to talk about Lukaku and Chelsea,” the former Inter coach said.
