Norwegian referee Espen Eskas will officiate Milan’s Champions League debut against Liverpool on Tuesday at the San Siro.
UEFA have confirmed the appointment of the 36-year-old, who has a relatively short experience in the major European competition, having officiated only four Champions League matches so far.
Compatriot assistants Jan Erik Engan and Isaak Elias Bashevkin, as well as fourth official Isaak Elias Bashevkin, have been picked alongside Eskas to take part in the Rossoneri’s opening game of their European campaign.
Who is Espen Eskas, referee of Milan’s Champions League debut against Liverpool
Milan’s clash against Liverpool will mark Eskas’ fifth Champions League match in his career, which also includes six Europa League fixtures, five Conference League clashes as well as 164 games in the Norwegian top flight.
Eskas has never officiated either Milan or Liverpool, and his highest point arguably came last season, when he was selected as referee of the Champions League round-of-16 second-leg between Manchester City and Copenhagen.
However, Tuesday’s Champions League clash won’t be Eskas’ debut with an Italian team, as he also officiated Roma’s 2-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Europa League group stage last season.
