Cavani: ‘Napoli can fight for Scudetto’

Edinson Cavani has pledged a great future together after extending his Napoli contract. “We'll fight for the Scudetto again.”

The Uruguayan hitman was a key figure in their third-place finish after scoring 27 Serie A goals and this week penned a new deal holding him to the club until 2016.

“The Champions League is a dream for me,” he told Radio Marte. “It tops off a year in which Uruguay reached the World Cup semi-finals and my son was born.

“My family is very happy in Naples and I want to do well here. I decided to stay at Napoli because of the way this city and its fans have treated me. With my renewal, the club proved it wants to achieve many more great things in future.

“Next season I want to fight to bring something more to these unique supporters. We'll try to fight for the Scudetto again, as with this squad, this hunger for success and this serious project in place, we can go far.”

Cavani joined from Palermo last summer and has become a hero to the San Paolo faithful.

“When a person feels so much affection, he has to repay them and that is why I wanted to extend my contract with Napoli.

“The love of the Napoli supporters is unique, as the only time I felt such affection was the return to Uruguay after the World Cup.”
