Castori: ‘Carpi not passing through’

Carpi begin their first Serie A campaign and Coach Fabrizio Castori notes we “earned it, so don’t want to just be passing through.”

The tiny club from the Emilia-Romagna region secured promotion by winning the Serie B tournament.

“Are we feeling nervous? No, let’s say it is a great joy for me to get back to work and start this adventure in Serie A,” Castori told reporters at their first training session.

The tiny club from the Emilia-Romagna region secured promotion by winning the Serie B tournament.

“Are we feeling nervous? No, let’s say it is a great joy for me to get back to work and start this adventure in Serie A,” Castori told reporters at their first training session.

“We are really hungry, because we earned it with sweat and fighting for every ball, so we don’t want to be just passing by. We don’t intend to be bit-part players.

“Our attitude must be the same as last season, keeping our style of football. Clearly the step up to Serie A requires more quality, but we are working to improve that aspect too.

“We have an advantage in tactical terms, as so many players here already know each other.”

There are some new arrivals, most notably goalkeeper Francesco Benussi and centre-forward Kamil Wilczek.

“Benussi is a goalkeeper we were already interested in last year, as he has a lot of Serie A experience and will give us a big hand.

“Wilczek did very well in the Polish League and we are curious to see him at work. He has the mentality of hard work and I appreciate that.”
