Roma defender Leandro Castan said he’s raring to go and has overcome a series of health problems.
The Brazilian has been out of action for most of the season due to an injury, but was also taken ill recently.
“Thank God, I am fine and I can’t wait to get back to playing,” he told Roma TV.
“It was a long and difficult time, as I had several problems all together. First the injuries to my leg, then I had an inflamed testicle and then a stomach virus that was worse than any of the rest.
“I didn’t eat for five days and lost so much weight. I heard rumours I had a tumour, but I can assure everyone that is not true. Some might not realise I have a family, parents and children who can hear these rumours and get scared.
“I am training now and ready to overcome everything. I was already eager to play for Roma, now that has been doubled. God gave me this challenge and I have overcome it.”
In his absence, Roma were defeated 3-2 by Juventus and lost 7-1 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
“I had the stomach virus during the Juve game, but I watched it and wanted to break the television. I did see one important thing: they were afraid of us.
“As for the Bayern Munich game, we have to see where we went wrong and how we can do better. Bayern are capable of winning the champions League, but I am sure the second leg will be different and we can do well in Germany.
“When we lose, we can’t let our heads drop. In football these things can happen, but we can still qualify. With all due respect to our other opponents in the group, we are on the same level.”
