Casiraghi: ‘Ronaldo won’t get 40’

Pierluigi Casiraghi doesn’t think Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo can get 40 goals this season – “Italian football and our defences are different from Spain”.

The new Bianconeri signing has scored at least 40 goals in all competitions in every season since 2009-10, and ended his time at Real Madrid with 450 goals in 438 games.

Last season in La Liga the Portuguese scored 26 goals in 27 appearances, but Casiraghi doesn’t expect him to do the same numbers in Serie A.

“Italian football and our defenses are different from Spain,” the former Juve and Lazio striker told Gazzetta della Sport.

“He’s here to win, but I don’t think he can get 40 goals like in La Liga.”

Casiraghi also gave his verdict on some other contenders for the Capocannoniere crown, starting with Ciro Immobile.

“He’s the most decisive Italian striker, and the fact that he and [Sergej] Milinkovic-Savic stayed could allow Lazio to repeat last season.

“Gonzalo Higuain? It’s a big coup for Milan. He’s a guarantee, he’ll score a lot of goals and have a great season.

“As for Arkadiusz Milik, this could be the year he explodes. He has all the keys to aim for the top.

“I hope an Italian will be Capocannoniere, I’m cheering for Immobile and [Andrea] Belotti.”
