The Neroverdi deposited the contract of the 18-year-old just before the end of the deadline day.
“We had scouted him for long time, but over the last few days the deal seemed collapsed,” Carnevali told Sky Sport Italia.
“We were almost resigned, but then we eventually managed to finalise the deal. It is an important purchase for us.”
Gianluca Scamacca will remain on loan at Genoa until the end of the season, despite interests from Parma and Juventus.
“We’ve always said the truth, we’ve kept our word. Scamacca is a young a promising player," Carnevali claimed.
“We made a choice with Genoa, but they changed their coach and maybe they changed their mind too.
“Scamacca would have returned return to Sassuolo if he had left Genoa.
“We spoke with Juventus, they wanted to sign him on loan, but we would only sell him on a permanent deal.
“Parma were close, they are friends, but they were not the first choice.”
