Former Napoli striker Careca insists the Partenopei were “far superior” despite their defeat to Juventus.
The Vesuviani went down 1-0 in Turin, surrendering the Serie A lead to the defending champions.
However, the Brazilian – who helped Napoli to a Scudetto and UEFA Cup in his time at San Paolo – believes his former side are right in the Scudetto race.
“The Scudetto? Yes, it might be the right year,” Careca said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Juve were smarter, but Napoli played better. The Bianconeri sat in and waited for [Maurizio] Sarri’s team but they also had a bit of luck.
“The Azzurri were far superior and deserved at least a draw. I think this Napoli can do great things.
“I think Napoli’s style of football is good to watch, maybe at Juventus Stadium they lacked a bit of cunning to get at least a draw.
“I’m sure Napoli can still do great things, they’re only a point behind Juve and there’s a 50 per cent chance of finishing above the Bianconeri.”
Careca was also asked about the Partenopei’s star striker, Gonzalo Higuain, who has 24 goals in 25 Serie A games this season.
“Higuain is a great champion. I hope he can make history for Napoli, because the fans deserve it.”
