Cairo: ‘Torino had 220 refereeing errors against us’

Torino President Urbano Cairo made a remarkable claim about the officiating in Serie A, suggesting his team had ‘220 errors against and only 50 in favour over the last three seasons.’

The Granata have long been angry at the way their games are officiated and coach Ivan Juric hit out at a ‘scandalous’ decision not to award a penalty in the final moments of their 1-1 draw with Monza over the weekend.

Now President Cairo has gone one further with a quite outlandish suggestion.

“We have been penalised in the most incredible way. I saw a statistic that said Torino had 220 refereeing errors against us and only 50 in favour over the last three seasons. That includes penalties not given and goals that were allowed when they should’ve been chalked off,” he told reporters.

“They take seven or eight points off you per season. Last year, we were only three away from qualifying for Europe.”

Torino are currently 11th in the Serie A standings with 16 points from 12 games.
