Cairo: ‘Juventus will be difficult’

Torino President Urbano Cairo admits “we know it will be difficult against Juventus” but “we’ll give everything we have”.

The Granata face their city rivals in the Derby della Mole this Sunday, having failed to win any of the last seven meetings.

“We know it will be difficult against Juventus,” Cairo confirmed, speaking to RMC Sport.

“We’ll play it in a great way though, we’ll give everything we have on the pitch. We need to give consistency to this positive period, the players are growing.

“We’ll play it in a great way though, we’ll give everything we have on the pitch. We need to give consistency to this positive period, the players are growing.

“Success in publishing is one thing, in football it’s another when you consider the difference in turnover with teams like Juventus, their turnover is five times higher.

“A statistic tells you that winning is directly proportional to the salaries you pay. So the more you pay for players the more you win.

“You need to have players who are strong, ready and at their peak, and you have to pay them accordingly.

“We at Torino have a turnover of €70m, which could maybe become higher if we sell some players. Juventus have a turnover of €500m.”

One player who could fetch a high price if sold is Andrea Belotti…

“The clause is the result of a promise I made if someone came in for him, but I held him tight. Last summer no-one came from abroad with €100m, so we kept him.

“I'm happy to have held on to him., he's happy to be here. He’s had a bit of an unlucky season but I'm convinced he can still do very well.

“I’d have tried to restrain him [if a bid came in] but if he didn’t want to stay I wouldn’t hold him against his will.”
