The Italy defender’s strike proved decisive in today’s 1-0 win over Crotone at the San Siro, lifting Rino Gattuso’s team level on points with seventh-placed Udinese.
“People had been asking me for a while when the goal was coming and I have finally repaid the faith,” Bonucci commented post-match.
“What matters is the spirit shown in the first half and the willingness to all suffer together during the final 10 minutes.
“The new year could not have started better.”
Milan are now on a three-match unbeaten run in all competitions, with today’s match preceeded by a 1-0 win over rivals Inter in the Coppa Italia and a League draw at Fiorentina.
“The desire to turn it around was there even beforehand,” Bonucci said when asked if victory over Luciano Spalletti’s side may prove to be the turning point in the Rossoneri’s season.
“The derby improved our confidence, our self-belief, and you could see that by how we took risks.
“We can still improve. The fans believe in us and we need to repay them on the pitch.”
