Bonucci feared Danish scrambles

Leonardo Bonucci explained Juventus difficulties defending against Copenhagen and in breaking them down.

“Copenhagen put 11 men behind the ball and that’s the problem we’ve had everywhere recently,” he told Sky Sport Italia after a 3-1 Champions League victory.

“They managed to equalise with a mad scramble, but we did well to restore our lead and play with calm and experience.

“We might look for high balls more with Fernando Llorente up front, as we need more options after our opponents have studied our style over the last two years.”

Both in the 1-1 draw in Denmark and this 3-1 win, Copenhagen caused problems with throw-ins and set plays.

“We had brought Llorente and Paul Pogba up for corners, but these ricochets can cause problems for anyone and on the goal they were quickest to get the final touch.”

Bonucci agrees that Juventus have changed tack since their 4-2 defeat to Fiorentina, a game they had been leading 2-0.

“It’s true that after a slap in the face like that, a big team is forced to get back on its feet. We did that, put together a series of positive results and that gave the group great confidence.”
