Basel midfielder Birkir Bjarnason “did not expect such a defensive approach from Fiorentina” in the Europa League.
The Viola took an early lead through Nikola Kalinic, but after Gonzalo Rodriguez received a straight red card, Bjarnason and Mohamed Elneny turned it around.
“Fiorentina defended for the entire match, while we played good football and in the end the goals arrived,” ex-Pescara midfielder Bjarnason told Sky Sport Italia.

“This victory is important, as we picked up three points away from home against a great team.
“I must be honest, I did not expect such a defensive approach from Fiorentina. I thought they’d be more attacking.”
