Besiktas ask Toronto FC for Bernardeschi

Italy international Federico Bernardeschi could be on his return to Europe after a disappointing Toronto FC experience, as talks are on with Besiktas.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the negotiations are progressing well and he has been offered a contract worth €4m per season over two years.

Bernardeschi made the free transfer to Toronto FC in the summer of 2022 after his contract with Juventus was allowed to run down.

His deal with the MLS club runs to December 2026, but his departure seemed increasingly likely after a difficult start to life in Canada.

The 29-year-old scored 11 goals and provided five assists in 37 competitive games for Toronto FC, but his attitude did not always chime with the local fans.

That is a fairly similar situation to the one he faced first at Fiorentina and then Juventus, because there is certainly talent, but consistency has always been a major issue for Bernardeschi.
