Bernardeschi ‘wants more goals, but…’

Fiorentina winger Federico Bernardeschi has confessed the need to add goals to his game but acknowledges he is not ”only an attacker“.

Bernardeschi plays as a wingback in Paulo Sousa’s 3-4-1-2 system for Fiorentina, but while the Italy starlet would like to pose more of a goal threat, he explained his role for La Viola meant he needed to be as adept defensively as he was going forward.

“It’s true [that I don’t score enough], but I’m not being asked to play only as an attacker,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“My job is to run, [help] keep the team compact and concentrate on defending crosses.

“This means burning energy, but I want to score more. I have to learn to score ugly. Maybe with my knee, perhaps with the touch of a striker.

“How far can Fiorentina go? We must try to get into the top six. How do I see Sousa? More fired up than ever. We want to try to win the Coppa Italia or Europa League.”

Bernardeschi was then quizzed on Fiorentina’s rivals, namely Juventus and Roma.

“Juve? Dybala is a footballer that I love. He’ll get even better,” he added.

“Dani Alves fascinates me most among their new signings. Pjaca, for me, will instead be a winning bet.

“Their rivals? They all have some little problems. I like Roma because I consider [Luciano] Spalletti a great Coach.”
