Bernardeschi on Toronto FC troubles and possible Serie A return

Federico Bernardeschi explains why his Toronto FC experience has hit problems and is ‘ready to evaluate’ any offers for a return to Serie A.

The former Fiorentina and Juventus man was a guest on Sky Sport Italia this evening and discussed his form since the free transfer to MLS last summer.

“The people and the city are just wonderful here. Unfortunately, we did not expect to have so many problems and to be so low down the standings,” said the 29-year-old.

“We tripped up a few times and had issues, but hopefully we can resolve those problems and get back on track in MLS.”

Having said that, Bernardeschi is more than open to a potential return to Italy during the summer transfer window.

“Italy is my home and naturally I miss it. All I can say is that right now I am a Toronto player, but if some offers were to arrive, we would be ready to evaluate them along with the club.”

There has been reported interest in Bernardeschi from Bologna, Atalanta and Scudetto winners Napoli.

“It is always pleasing to receive attention, so I am flattered and grateful, we’ll have to see how the situation evolves.”

Bernardeschi has made 36 official appearances for Toronto FC, contributing 11 goals and five assists.
