Mario Beretta is the new Cesena Coach after replacing the sacked Daniele Arrigoni. “Our first objective is to get off the foot of the table.”

The decision was made on Tuesday and President Igor Campedelli explained why he had fired two tacticians already this season.

“I must thank Arrigoni for his work, but the team did not give the response I was expecting. We are wounded, we are bottom in the standings, but we are not dead yet. We chose Beretta to shake up the squad.”

Beretta was presented to the media in a presentation press conference and outlined his aims for the next three months.

“I thank the President and club, but also thank Arrigoni and Marco Giampaolo who preceded me in this job,” said the former Siena boss.

“We have all the time we need to get back into the race, although three months isn’t that much, so we must really dig deep and push through it.

“I found a team that needs certainty in tactical, psychological and athletic terms. Our first objective is to get off the foot of the table. It is a large mountain to climb, so it’ll require great courage and willpower.

“Everyone must give their contribution. In terms of tactics, I think the players at my disposal allow me to adopt several different systems.”

Beretta is thrown straight into the deep end on Sunday with a relegation dogfight against Chievo.

“It is certainly a difficult challenge and we are studying Chievo’s strengths and weaknesses. I know it may seem banal, but 15 cup finals await us. I ask everyone to give 100 per cent in every match.”
