‘Berardi Sassuolo’s bandiera, Politano…’

Sassuolo’s CEO has revealed that he sees Domenico Berardi as a ‘bandiera’ for the Neroverdi and Matteo Politano at a ‘big club’ one day.

A ‘bandiera’ literally translates to ‘flag’ and is used to describe one-club men or fan favourites at Italian teams, while the two forwards were on target during Sassuolo’s 2-1 win at Inter on Saturday.

“Berardi? For me he’s important, we’ve done everything to keep him for several seasons, plus his desire to stay has counted for something,” Giovanni Carnevali told Radio Rai.

“It’s true that he hasn’t had an exceptional campaign, although he expressed himself well in the second half of it.

“We’d like to continue our journey with him, and we’ll make the right assessments on him. We wouldn’t mind if it became our ‘bandiera’.

“Politano? He’s someone who was asked about by many teams in January, Napoli being the first.

“We wanted to keep him and, in fact, he’s allowed us to get out of some unpleasant situations.

“Compared to last season, he’s grown a lot. It’s clear that he and Berardi are players who may have interesting prospects at big clubs.”
